Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage could arguably be the most known massage in the world. It is designed primarily to relax muscles and increase their flexibility by employing a series of firm strokes, glides and kneads.

The strokes are applied with light to medium pressure and the massage usually goes in the direction of the heart and clusters of lymph nodes to stimulate the blood and lymph circulation through the soft tissues of the body.

An improved blood circulation can help the body deliver nutrients and oxygen to the tissues and cells more efficiently and an improved lymph circulation can help it to rid toxins, drain excess body fluids and to fight against viruses and bacteria.

Swedish Massage is a special massage that could help relieve both emotional and physical stress. In fact, it is often prescribed as part of a regular program for stress management.

The massage will stimulate the release of Endorphins, also affectionately known as Happy Hormones or body’s own painkillers. Endorphins and the gentle touches would calm and relax a tensed person and allow him to feel connected, nurtured and loved.

The natural painkillers and the firmer touches of the massage would relieve pain and discomfort associated with muscle tension, fractures, sprains and stiff joints.

With muscles loosened and nerves calmed, one would feel totally relaxed and happy when the massage session concludes.

Thai Massage

The origins of traditional Thai Massage can be traced to more than 2,500 years ago. The system is believed to be developed by Doctor Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, who was a celebrated yogi and an eminent doctor practicing Ayurveda.  He knew the Buddha himself and have treated him and his community of monks often.

After the death of Buddha, the earliest monks and accompanying Ayurveda doctors travelled to Southeast Asia to spread the Buddha’s teachings.  They brought along the healing arts with them and over time, with influence of the Chinese medicine, Thai massage evolved to what it is today.  For centuries, Thai massage was performed by monks to share the benefits of practicing compassion in a physical way.  It is a respected form of healing practiced today in hospitals and temples throughout Thailand.

Like most Asian bodyworks, Thai massage is based on the concept that there is a system of energy lines in the body and if these lines are blocked, health problems will surface.  In Thailand, these energy lines are called Sen.  Thai massage is mostly known for its work on Sen lines.  As many of its stretches resemble yoga moves, Thai massage is also known as Thai Yoga Massage.

What is a Massage?

When we feel tired, we rub the area that feels sore. When we have a headache, we rub our temples. These are all instinctive. Almost natural. Massage is really an extension of man's natural reaction to discomfort and pain and it is the most natural form of healing.

According to Wikipedia, the word "massage" probably came from an Arabic word "Massa" which means "to touch, feel, handle". The art of massage simply got richer and more fanciful as years passed but the core benefits of having a massage remain unchanged.

If you have experienced a good massage, you know how it affects both your body and mind.

Massage stimulates the release of endorphins which is a natural painkiller. A good massage could help to relieve the tension and pain in our body while the massage strokes and pressure could help to tone our muscles, improve blood and lymph circulation.

Endorphins are also known as Happy Hormones. Their presence in our blood stream will give us a sense of well-being. Massage is known to beat several stressed related symptoms such as poor appetite, fatigue and sleeplessness.
