After the
death of Buddha, the earliest monks and accompanying Ayurveda doctors travelled
to Southeast Asia to spread the Buddha’s
teachings. They brought along the healing arts with them and over time, with influence of the Chinese medicine, Thai massage evolved to what it is today. For centuries, Thai massage was performed by
monks to share the benefits of practicing compassion in a physical way. It is a respected form of healing practiced
today in hospitals and temples throughout Thailand .

Thai Massage
The
origins of traditional Thai Massage can be traced to more than 2,500 years ago.
The system is believed to be developed by Doctor Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, who was a
celebrated yogi and an eminent doctor practicing Ayurveda. He knew the Buddha himself and have treated
him and his community of monks often.
Like most
Asian bodyworks, Thai massage is based on the concept that there is a system of
energy lines in the body and if these lines are blocked, health problems will
surface. In Thailand , these energy lines are
called Sen. Thai massage is mostly known
for its work on Sen lines. As many of
its stretches resemble yoga moves, Thai massage is also known as Thai Yoga
Massage.
